Get ready for your first onboarding session

Your Nanitor trial is agreed, your Nanitor instance is set up, and your first onboarding session is booked. Complete the steps below before the session, so that the session does not have to be spent on setup.

Follow the path that fits you:

Before you start

  • You have received an email invitation to your Nanitor instance, for example https://example.nanitor.com. Your own organization has already been created.
  • You can install software on the machines you want to include.
  • The machines can reach your Nanitor instance over HTTPS (TCP port 443). The agent only connects outbound, and only to your instance. The one-line install commands also download the installer from nanitor.io, so the machines must also reach nanitor.io over HTTPS. If the machines use a proxy, see Configuring Proxy on an Agent. For what the agent does on a machine, see Agent schedule and resource use.
  • The machines run a supported operating system. See What platforms are supported?.
  • MSPs only: to create customer organizations, you need the System administrator role. If you do not see System management under the gear icon, contact Nanitor support.

  1. Open the activation link in the invitation email, and set your password. See Activate the account.
  2. Sign in to your Nanitor instance. We recommend that you enable MFA.
  3. Check that your organization's name is shown in the top bar.

Install agents for your own company

  1. Copy your organization's signup URL, as described in Finding your Signup URL.
  2. Install the agent on a few machines of each type you want to evaluate, for example a couple of workstations and a couple of servers:
  3. Check that the machines appear under Inventory → Assets. Basic information shows within a few minutes. If a machine does not appear, see Assets with an installed agent do not appear in Nanitor.

You do not need to set up labels or asset ratings yet. We go through them with you in the onboarding session.

Set up customers and install agents as an MSP

  1. Create one organization for each customer in the trial, with your own organization as Parent. Each customer organization has its own assets, issues and Issue Diamond, and you can change the parent later. See Create an organization.
  2. Give your staff access to all customers by adding them in your own organization with Inherited to suborganizations. See Give your staff access to all customers.
  3. Install each customer's agents with that customer's signup URL. Use the signup URL, not the signup key. See Finding your Signup URL. To roll out through an RMM, see How do I automate agent deployment across multiple organizations?.
  4. Check that the machines appear under Inventory → Assets in each customer's organization. If a machine is in the wrong organization, move it with Transfer to organization. See Install agents into the right organization.
  5. Optional: give each customer's own staff access to their organization. They then see their own assets, issues and Issue Diamond, and none of your other customers. Use the Auditor role for read-only access. See Give a customer's staff access to their organization only.
  6. Optional: to evaluate your own machines too, install agents on them with your own organization's signup URL, as described in Install agents for your own company.

Your system administrators can see and change every organization. An API key created in your own organization can read, and with write access change, the data of all your customer organizations. To see all your customers together, use the Global overview.

Invite colleagues and add a collector (optional)
