Asset Count vs Licensed Assets

You may encounter a couple of different Asset counts in the system, one being the term asset count and the other license count. The difference is fairly straightforward.

  • Asset counts are all assets in the system that have not been archived
  • Licensed Assets are those assets that have an agent installed or collected on by a collector.

How archiving affects the license count

  • Archived assets do not count toward the license count.
  • Inactive assets and assets in the Pending Archival state are not archived, so they still count toward the license count until they are archived.
  • To lower the license count, archive the assets you no longer need. Assets in the Pending Archival state are archived when you confirm archival. See the Nanitor Archival Policy for how assets are archived automatically or manually.
  • If the agent is still installed on an archived asset and checks in again, the asset is restored and counts toward the license again. Remove the agent before you archive the asset.
