The Windows agent is not installing

The Nanitor Agent for Windows is an MSI package that first installs some files and then registers itself with the Nanitor Server. To do that it needs to know where the Nanitor Server is and what organization we belong to. It reads that from the Signup URL we provide it with. Almost all failures to install the Nanitor Agent are due to it not being able to establish communication with the server. Here are the most common reasons for it not working.

  1. The Nanitor Agent device does not have direct access to the Nanitor Server. The solution is to either open a port in the network firewall to allow it through or use an https proxy.
  2. The Nanitor Agent is unable to look up the hostname of the Nanitor Server. In this case it needs to be added into DNS or into the Windows hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)
  3. The Nanitor Agent is not trusting the Nanitor Server certificate. Please see this link to resolve it.
  4. On Windows WMI service might not be running or corrupted.  See the related page Windows: Troubleshooting WMI errors for more information.
