Nanitor Offboarding and Decommissioning Guide
Summary: This guide outlines the necessary steps to decommission Nanitor services and uninstall components. These steps ensure that all data is handled correctly and that endpoints stop reporting to the Nanitor system.
1. Server & Data Decommissioning
The process for removing the core Nanitor system depends on your deployment model.
A. For Nanitor Cloud (SaaS) Customers
If your instance is hosted by Nanitor (e.g., mycompany.nanitor.io):
- Action: No technical action is required on the server side.
- Process: Once your contract is terminated, Nanitor Operations will initiate the Cloud Decommissioning Process. This involves the permanent deletion of your dedicated cloud instance and all associated databases in accordance with our ISO 27001 retention policies.
B. For Self-Hosted (On-Premise) Customers
If you host the Nanitor Server on your own infrastructure:
- Responsibility: You are responsible for the deletion of data and removal of the server.
- Action:
- Stop the Service: Stop the Nanitor server service.
- Delete the Instance: Delete the Virtual Machine (VM) hosting the server.
- Remove Data: Ensure that the PostgreSQL database and any backups are deleted or wiped in accordance with your internal data disposal policy.
2. Uninstalling Nanitor Agents (All Customers)
Crucial Step
Regardless of whether you are Cloud or Self-Hosted, you must uninstall the Nanitor Agent from all monitored assets. Failure to do so will result in agents continuing to run in the background, consuming resources and attempting to send encrypted reports to a server that no longer exists.
Please ensure the uninstall command is executed on all devices.
Windows
You can uninstall the agent via the Control Panel or utilizing your software deployment tool (e.g., GPO, SCCM, Intune).
Manual Method (Control Panel):
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Locate Nanitor Agent.
- Right-click and select Uninstall.
Command Line / Script:
wmic product where name="Nanitor Agent" call uninstall
Linux
Use your distribution's package manager to purge the agent completely.
Debian / Ubuntu (apt)
sudo apt purge nanitor-agent
RHEL / CentOS / Fedora / AlmaLinux (dnf):
sudo dnf erase nanitor-agent
3. Verification
Before closing your project, please verify:
- Network Traffic: Confirm that no internal traffic is being generated towards the Nanitor collector address.
- Asset Lists: Cross-reference your inventory to ensure no "forgotten" servers or laptops still have the agent service running.
