Release Notes Summary - 3.7.0
There have been several significant changes that go beyond the user interface. Three of the most notable changes include improvements to the software inventory, user session management, and asset filtering.
Software Inventory Improvements
The software inventory feature has been enhanced by grouping the software list by its vendor, providing a more organized and comprehensive view. This improvement streamlines the process of managing and monitoring installed software and packages. Additionally, we have implemented Linux packages to the software inventory.
User Session Management
Previously we added a user session limiting feature, making it so that users could not have more than one active session at a time and a single session could not be inactive for more than 4 hours before being terminated. The user session limiting was mandatory for all users, however in some cases our customers may want to opt out of this feature. To accommodate this request, we have added a setting to allow this feature to be turned off. It is worth mentioning that we strongly suggest that the user session limiting is turned on.
Asset Feature Support Matrix
The asset feature support matrix has been implemented to show which checks can be performed on each asset. This matrix is accessible via the asset page from the Actions menu.
User Inventory Improvement
One of the changes introduced are the merging of search fields for users and user emails on the user inventory page. This change streamlines the user experience by allowing users to search for users on devices more efficiently, using either their name or email address.
Predefined Labels and Rules
Predefined labels and rules for assets are set automatically for new instances of Nanitor. This feature enables users to better manage and categorize assets within their organization by applying predefined labels and rules. This functionality helps with improving the organization and visibility of assets.
Enhanced Dashboard and Overview Functionality
Dashboard and overview functionalities have been improved. These updates provide users with the ability to see the number of assets per label in the Dashboards - Overview section, giving them a clearer view of their asset distribution. Additionally, better handling of overview filtering has been implemented, providing users with a more accurate and streamlined experience when viewing and filtering assets and issues within their organization.
Managing Discovered Assets
When unmonitored assets are detected on the network, they are added to Nanitor as rogue assets. However, some unmonitored assets, such as printers, can be legitimate and expected on the network. Previously, there was no way to distinguish between rogue assets and legitimate unmonitored assets, leading to unnecessary alerts and irritating asset management.
With this new feature, an admin user can easily authorize a rogue device, marking it as a legitimate asset and moving it from the rogue state to the unmonitored state. This allows the system to recognize and differentiate between rogue assets and legitimate unmonitored assets, providing a more accurate view of the network and reducing the risk of unnecessary alerts. By authorizing rogue devices, admin users can ensure that only legitimate unmonitored assets are present on the network, improving network security and simplifying asset management. This feature gives users greater control over their network assets and helps them make informed decisions about network security.
